By law, everyone has the right to medical treatment. Still, many people living in Germany without residence status cannot visit a doctor. According to §87 of the Residence Law, the Social Welfare Office (Sozialamt) is obligated to transmit the data to the Foreigners Registration Office (Ausländeramt) if the cost of treatment is covered. This could threaten the affected persons with deportation. With the petition, we want to restrict the obligation to transmit data and enable all people – regardless of their status – to go to the doctor without fear.
